Brief

As the designer and creator of the magazine Region, I aimed to capture the essence of the North East surf scene whilst honouring a departed friend. The magazine showcased a range of topics revolving around surfing in the region, highlighting the resilient and hardy spirit of the community and the determination to brave the cold, wintry North Sea. The design embodied an authentic "It's grim up North" aesthetic, blending elegance and grit to portray the captivating beauty of the North East coastline.

Letterhead

For the magazine's letter head, I aimed to evoke a raw aesthetic that mirrored the content. Using ink and a brush, I captured the organic brush strokes in the typography. These elements were vectorized and masked within an unstructured shape, revealing the cover image subtly. To align with the nautical theme, I  integrated a compass within the letter 'O' as the arrow discreetly pointing towards the North East.

A fitting tribute to honour Simon Kerr a legend of Tynemouth.

Following its completion, Region was successfully published, and a significant number of copies were distributed throughout the area. The magazine received overwhelmingly positive feedback, affirming its resonance within the community.
